Pet Insurance
It is necessary to understand that not all pet insurance policies are the same. Some policies limit the amount of time, money or both that you can claim for so don’t just look at price alone.
Many people believe that it is not necessary to insure younger pets as it is only the older ones that become ill. However, this is not the case. The earlier you insure your pet the less likely they are to have any existing conditions, which may not be covered by the policy and you can then receive more help covering the cost of any future treatment your pet needs. However, not all pet insurance policies are the same, so it is important to read the fine print to see what level of cover the provider offers. Sometimes, the cheapest insurance can cost you more in the long run.

The four main types of policy are as follows:
Accident: provides cover for accidents only and no cover for illness
Time-Limited: provides cover for a set amount of time (usually 12 months) and after this period the condition is excluded
Maximum Benefit: provides cover up to a maximum amount of money per condition and once this limit is reached the condition is excluded
Lifetime: provides a set amount of money each year which is renewed each year as long as you stay with you original provider. This allows you to continue to claim for ongoing conditions as well as new accidents and conditions.
We cannot recommend any specific insurance company but can offer 5 weeks free with Agria if your pet is between 8 weeks and 18 months of age and has a vaccination or health check with one of our vets. The insurance is activated on the same day as the check up or vaccination.
We never want money to be an issue should your pet require treatment but there is also no doubt that the provision of highquality veterinary care can be costly.
We hope your pet stays in good health but, ask yourself, could you afford an unexpected veterinary bill of £2000? In the absence of a Pet National Health Service, lifelong pet insurance may offer the best solution for pet owners.
It is for this reason we suggest all our clients take out a good quality pet insurance product. We are a Vetsure-accredited practice and, as such, promote the Vetsure range of pet insurance products. As a recognised practice we benefit from active communication channels with the Vetsure team. This means that we can obtain pre-authorisation prior to starting treatment and can help make the claim process as easy as possible.
